ESSA

Emergency System Survivability Assessment (ESSA)

ESSA is a systematic review for the ability of emergency systems (such as fire & gas system, emergency shutdown, firefighting system and emergency power, etc.) to withstand the major accident hazards scenario such as fire, explosion, flammable and toxic gas dispersion impact.

EERA starts with identification of emergency systems that are required to be in operation during major accident scenarios, this is done by reviewing the HSECES lists applicable to the facility / installation.

Once the emergency system list is finalized, an MAH and emergency system matrix is developed to identify applicable MAH which will have potential impact on the required emergency system. Further, each identified emergency system is assessed for its survivability during identified MAH scenario to ensure that the system is not vulnerable, or system goes to fail safe or redundance system in place to prevent, detect, control or mitigate the MAH impact.

If the emergency system is found to be vulnerable, not fail-safe and not redundant, then remedial action will be identified to ensure the survivability of the affected emergency system during MAH event.
