Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPS) is defined as the concurrent execution of multiple activities, which due to their interaction with routine operations result in increased operational complexity & level of risk.
SIMOPS are two or more separate activities that take place in the same area & might cause conflict or have an impact / risk with one another during normal activities or emergencies.
For example, the following may be considered SIMOPS conditions:
- Hazardous activities/tasks, such as hot work, conducted within 25m of a live hydrocarbon pipeline or facility
- A major construction or exploration activity conducted within 500m of an offshore facility, such as rig movement nearer to a production platform, drilling near a production platform, addition of new equipment or extension of a platform to an existing complex
